Prep baseball Champs

Snow Canyon beat the Dixie Flyers twice in a row Saturday to win the 3A state championship game, which made their celebration twice as much fun.

116th on their way to Iraq

I was assigned to cover the 116th National Guard Convoy Security Unit as they left Salt Lake City on their way to Iraq. It's the first group of soldiers I have photographed leaving for Iraq since I returned a year and a half ago. The memories of leaving my own family, even for the short time I was gone, made it extremely hard to watch the families, especially the kids, of these soldiers say good-bye. 3,421 members of the US Military have died since the beginning of the war.

Jazz Warriors Game 3

I hate to make excuses for missing a great photo, but I didn't have enough time to yell at Matt Barnes to get out of my way before Baron Davis used Kirilenko's face to make his amazing dunk. Kat Wade from The San Francisco Chronicle was sitting about 3 feet to my left. She got the shot.

The Jazz lost, but Baron Davis played an incredible game tonight.

NBA Playoffs Jazz vs Warriors

There are few sports that match the intensity and excitement of the NBA finals. It's been 7 years since the Jazz won a playoff series, and about 7 years since I last saw Jazzman Mike Douros.

A spring hike

It was a mild spring day in Port Angeles, Washington last Saturday. My wife and I decided to take a short hike to a lake in the Olympic National Forest. The sign said 3.7 miles, we noticed the fog descending at about 2.5 miles, a half mile later we were walking through snow! Nearly three hours later we reached the lake. It was frozen, and it starting to snow. I took a few tumbles on the snowy trails on the way down. Next time I'm not hiking in Birkenstock sandals.

Gwen

I saw Gwen Stefani last night at the E-Center. She put on a great show, she changed costumes every song, and the crowd loved her. It was the 5th time I have seen her in concert, but I still think my favorite Gwen Stefani show was at the Fairgrounds with Trent Nelson eleven years ago, when No Doubt opened for 311. That was back in the days before photo cell phones, when the fans on the front row used to sing and dance to the music.
